Three simple things to do before the freeze hits your garden!

Brrr… chilly nights are on their way! Before Jack Frost makes his first appearance, give your garden a little extra love with these three quick tips.

1. Harvest the Last of Your Summer Goodies

Pick those tomatoes, peppers, squash, and other tender vegetables before freezing temperatures arrive. Green tomatoes? Bring them inside to ripen!

2. Protect Your Tender Plants

Cover sensitive plants with frost cloth or lightweight blankets before sunset. Secure the edges to trap warmth, and uncover when temperatures rise. Bring potted tropical plants indoors!

3. Tuck Your Garden In with Mulch (on sale at Woodstuff Landscape Supply)

Give your garden a cozy blanket! Add 2–3 inches of mulch around perennials, trees, and shrubs to help insulate roots, retain moisture, and protect against temperature swings. Keep mulch away from stems and trunks. With all the recent rain, there's probably no need to water, but check the soil and give plants a drink if it's dry.

Cool-season favorites like kale, spinach, and pansies can keep your garden beautiful well into fall.
